Danesfield House Hotel & Spa

I’m almost embarrassed to say that I’ve been on yet another spa day. In my defence, this one had been in the diary for six months, so to say I was excited about it was an under statement…!

It’s my Mum’s birthday in December and my Dad always spoils her (how cute is that, 43 years later and still full of love for each other!), and last year he got her a Lava Spa Day – a day at Danesfield Spa for her and 3 others.

Luckily for me and my 2 sisters, she picked us three – yay! It’s rare that the four of us get to spend time together on our own. With our family totalling 9 adults, 1 dog and six children under seven, get togethers usually consist of getting half-way through a sentence before someones tugging on your jumper, announcing they need a wee or vomiting spectacularly (and that’s just the husbands after a few drinks ;)…). it’s been a hectic few weeks, and I think between us we’ve covered every stressful possibility under the spectrum – houses, jobs, families … We’ve been through it all!

So with husbands tasked with taking on Daddy Day Care, and my 2 big sisters hightailing it in a taxi to meet us at the spa, we were in for an amazing day!

We arrived pretty promptly at 09:15 am, and were greeted by the spa receptionists, who gave us health forms, lunch menus and an itinerary of our day, plus we were brought tea and coffee and biscuits. You can’t complain about that can you!? 😉

We spent our morning lazing by the pool. We brought a load of magazines but in the end we were all so excited to be together, we ended up chatting away for most of it; between time in the hot tub, steam room and a ‘relaxing swim’ in the pool (by which I mean approx 3 lengths and more gossiping in the shallows!) it was lunch time.

All that relaxing meant we’d worked up a pretty significant appetite! Having picked our lunches in the morning, we knew what was coming. The girls opted for sandwiches, and Mum and I had salads. The sandwiches were pretty small which was a bit disappointing, but the salad was delicious – a super salad combining feta, pomegranate seeds, quinoa and green beans, which I had with a supplement of Salmon (£6.50). And, in the spirit of being healthy, we all opted for the chocolate brownie for dessert.

After a round of bubbles, we decided to head back into the spa, ready for our treatments; included in the day was the hot stone Lava massage. Described on their spa menu as:

“A combined Lava Shell and Glacial Shell massage treatment to treat general aches and pains. Specific massage techniques target trigger points in muscles which can be responsible for tension and referred pain. The treatment leaves you feeling invigorated, muscles are more relaxed and aches and pains significantly reduced.”

I was pretty intrigued by this, and I’ve always opted for a fail-safe full body massage mainly because I know what I’m getting and I love a massage!

So one by one we headed to our treatment rooms, where they explained a bit about how the massage would work – a combination of super hot and icy cold stones. Eek! The massage was incredible and my therapist was lovely – I can’t remember the last time I felt so relaxed during a massage! I would definitely opt for a hot stone massage again which I’m surprised to find myself saying 🙂

Afterwards, we spent some time in their relaxation room which has big comfy loungers with fluffy blankets at the end. Perfect to sit quietly and indulge in that relaxed post-massage haze!

It was time to return for a final swim and gossip. The day always seems to go so quickly when you’re having fun. I feel so lucky that I can consider my Mum and sisters three of my best friends. We left feeling relaxed, content and with a firm resolution to do this together every year. 💕

Never be embarrassed about a spa day, Kate! You definitely deserve some pampering and relaxation! How comfy do those loungers look by the pool? I definitely wouldn’t have wanted to leave them! I have had a hot stone massage before and it was AMAZING, easily the nicest massage I’ve ever had (could do with one now hehe) so the combo of hot and cold stones is intriguing! Definitely an essential for me to try it out hehe! How cute of your Dad to purchase this as a gift for your Mum, and how lovely of her to invite you and your sisters along too! Glad you enjoyed it so much!
