Spanish Travel Diary – Tropicana Taberna

I’ve come back from Spain to find that none of my clothes fit, the trainer at the gym greets me with “hey stranger!” (that’s how long it’s been!) and sneakily unbuttoning my jeans when I sit down, but it was ALL worth it because of all the yummy food I got to experience while in Spain…

As many of you will know, writing travel diaries is my favourite part of blogging! Spain is a special place as we go every year and I’m super lucky as my parents have a place out there. Every August, my best friends and I make a little pilgrimage over to enjoy sun, sand and vitamin sea!

This year we decided to explore our surroundings a bit more. Our first stop was Ronda – a pretty old town with some stunning architecture.

All credit goes to my friend D for finding Taverna by using his nimble Trip Advisor skills.

From the outside, it looked like Just Another Tapas Bar; nothing too special… The inside was cutesy and rustic in its own little way, but nothing super special …

The hour-long drive through all sorts of windy roads up the mountain, and a slightly late night the night before we were pretty hungry whilst we waited for the others to arrive – so we each opted for the Crispy Oxtail; which is winner of the best tapas in Ronda. It was a TOTALLY worthy winner, too!

Next up, it was time for the mains – a fair few of us went for the Prime Burger – the bread buns had been cooked all night – doesn’t sound too appetising, does it? But Oh-Em-Gee; these fresh baked buns were cooked to perfection. Local goats cheese on top of perfectly cooked beef, topped with caramelised onions and the most heavenly fig jam…

D opted for the Beef Entrecôte which came with a side of aubergine chips.

They also do a pretty amazing range of salads, should meat not be your thang: H opted for this one which is the pickled quail salad, and I have it on good authority it was particularly delicious!

Although we could have stayed all day enjoying their cocktails and feasting on more tapas, it was time to get out and explore, but more on that later!

Also, I was super impressed by their menu having all allergens listed super clearly; we have a nut allergy sufferer in our group so we always have to be super careful, this menu made it easy for us!

I can’t recommend Tropicana enough! Have you eaten anywhere else in Ronda?

It was sooo tasty Hels! The Tripadvisor trick was so handy – stupidly I’d never think to look there but after D’s find I’ll definitely be using this more often! 💙💙

Wow, you’ve absolutely killed it with your photography in this post, Kate!! These photos wouldn’t look out of place on the most high quality Pinterest boards! I love the shabby chic vibe of this place, good on your friend D for discovering it! If I saw oxtail on the menu it definitely wouldn’t be something that I’d have as my first choice but after seeing your photo, I think I’d be way more inclined to give it a try, it looks delish! Why oh why did I decide to read this before breakfast?! Can’t wait for more travel diary instalments!
