A Postcard from Prague…

What to do, in that odd slump between Christmas and New Year? And especially what to do, if one of your best girlfriends hits the big 3-0 in that time, too? There was only one thing for it. Grab your passport, hop on a 90 minute flight, and find yourself in fairy tale Prague…

We stayed in the dreamiest, Carrie Bradshaw style Air B n B, which was a stones throw from the Old Town.

If, like me, you’re a sucker for wandering around with your eyes looking up and absorbing all of the pretty architecture, then Prague is the fairy tale town for you. It really is beautiful. Cobbled streets, coloured houses…. I could wax lyrical about it all!

Not to mention, their local food is … FRIED. CHEESE. Fried cheese people…! Oh, and beer is cheaper than water. Pretty amazing all round!

We spent two days, wondering around, ducking into tiny candle lit restaurants tucked away in side streets, and giving absinthe a try. It is absolutely not for me… too potent! But the girls survived their glasses … Just about 😉

Prague at Christmas time is just the most beautiful, festive place. A little part of me wishes we’d gone just before so we could really get in the Christmas spirit, but it was just as beautiful post-Christmas, too! The Christmas markets continued in the streets, the tallest tree was lit up in the square and every restaurant felt so cosy and homely…

If you get the chance to go to Prague, GO! We only explored the main city as we were there for 2 days, but I have it on good authority that there’s some stunning country side to be seen, too!

We also did a river cruise which I probably wouldn’t recommend unless you’re there in summer – it was full of condensation and we couldn’t see a thing. Luckily we quite like each other’s company, and we especially like each others company when it involves Bohemia Sekt… so we managed to pass the time 😉

Have you been to Prague? I’d love to hear about it!

This sounds like the best girls trip imaginable! A mention of booze in nearly every paragraph of the post sounds like a winner to me haha! 😉 As a cheese fanatic, you had me convinced that Prague was the city for me as soon as you mentioned the fried varieties you’ve been eating! Such a shame about the river cruise not actually showing you any of the .. well .. river! You’ll just have to go back again when the weather is more favourable hehe!! Absinthe is definitely not for me either (blergh) but roaming around those gorgeous cobbled streets and staying in a B&B worthy of Carrie herself? Sign me up! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous photos and for giving me such wanderlust for a city break …

hahaha oops – maybe a few too many mentions of just how much fizz was involved on this particular trip! OMG the cheese… so. much. cheese, Abbey! haha we def had to make the best of a bad boating situation! I definitely would love to go back, its the kind of place I can imagine is almost completely different in the summer! It’s a great spot for a city break and I highly recommend it!

I’ve never been but my brother who isn’t really a traveller has been twice and loves it. I’d love to go for the Christmas markets one year with my mum, I think it would be magical. Glad you had such a great time!

This sounds like an amazing trip! We’d love to visit during the festive period one day, although we have been there once before on our interrail trip and is definitely one to look up at, the places are stunning and there’s so much to see. Beer is defo cheaper than water, so save money right? Drink more beer hahaha glad you had a fab time!

Ahhh your photos are so gorgeous!! Fried cheese sounds right up my street, and I’m not an absinthe fan either! I’ve always wanted to visit Prague as my cousin lives there but I’ve never really had the chance, maybe I’ll give her a visit next Christmas, as it sure does look beautiful for the festive season!
