It’s become a tradition that every year, my Mum, two sisters and I get treated to a spa day for Mum’s birthday. It is literally impossible to co-ordinate our diaries; Mum’s birthday is Boxing Day, and we finally managed to settle on the date of April 22nd.
The fun even starts at looking at which ones to select – we had a look at lots of different spas, but finally settled on The Grove, London’s Country Estate. Set in 300 acres of Hertfordshire countryside, but only 18 miles outside of London, it was the perfect little 5* spot for us to met up – just us girls, no husbands or kids, so that we could really get down and catch up on all of the gossip.
Don’t get me wrong – it is amazing having all the little ones around; but trying to gossip is pretty difficult when there’s six kids around because you’re always taking one to the toilet, fixing a toy for another, entertaining one of them and so on.
We were all in need of a little R&R, from busy work schedules, to hectic home lives, so it couldn’t have come at a better time; our package included a treatment as well as dinner in The Stables restaurant.
Let’s get down to it, shall we?
The building is beautiful – everywhere you look, every little thing has been thought of…
We lucked out big time with the weather. First things first when we arrived – we needed a bottle of prosecco, some lunch, and a good old catch up! We sat outside and it was just stunning…
And then it was time to hit the spa. The facilities were b-e-a-utiful; the pool is large and has ample seating space. There was also a stunning outdoor area, which in this weather was the perfect post-massage space.
We returned to our rooms feeling relaxed and refreshed, and threw on our glad rags for lunch at the stables. The grounds are so beautiful, you could stroll around them for hours, and the wander to The Stables provided us with the prettiest sunset views of the rolling country side.
After an incredible 3 course dinner (home made pies and ice cream all-round :)), followed by an amazing nights sleep, we headed to a delicious buffet breakfast in the grounds before we wondered across to the other side of the grounds on a little adventure; it’s beautiful, with a walled garden, an outdoor pool and the perfect pit stop for ice creams…
We also decided to explore more of the building, coming across my dream library…
We decided to have one final cup of tea, before packing up the cars and saying goodbye until the next one.
It was the perfect weekend with my three best friends. I already can’t wait for the next!
I could have happily moved in to The Grove, spending my days wandering around the grounds and exploring every nook and cranny with filled with books and walled gardens…
Have you visited The Grove? 🙂

What a lovely tradition! My Mum isn’t really into spa type things and I don’t have any sisters to drag along with me! But I’d love to do a proper spa weekend somewhere like this. It looks stunning! 🙂 xxx
Oh wow it’s stunning there xx
Better late than never for a birthday trip, eh? This place looks absolutely wonderful and I’m sure that the amazing whether you enjoyed made it even more special! I’m very glad to hear that there was ample seating space around the pool, it’s my only complaint about places such as Champney’s spas that there are never enough loungers for everyone in the pool area! It’s nice to know that you’re able to wander in at any time and find a space! The home-made pies for dinner sound like an ideal way to end the day, and how cute is that library too?! I definitely need to pay this place a visit!
