Autumn is an absolutely maddening time of year for me. I absolutely love it – I think, it’s probably safe to say its my favourite part of the year; There are SO many things I like about it, in fact I have a few key favourite things; 1 – Fairy lights and candles. Darker evenings? No problem at all, time just to get cosy and chill out. 2 – Big, cosy throws – sod the heating, its the perfect time to pile up under blankets. 3 – A large glass of red wine whilst it rains outside (Side note: this is how I know I’m old because this is approx 1000x more appealing than going out on a Saturday is to me now!) 4 – Knitwear. I’m not a huge fan of my figure anyway but I do love the opportunity autumn presents to throw on a softer-than-butter chunky knit…

It’s a strange old world this blogging stuff. I love having a creative outlet, especially one where I can share photos – probably the part of blogging I love most, but from time to time, there’s so many external politics in blogging. For those not in the know, there was a recent ‘scandal’ within the blogging community whereby one of the company’s providing themes to numerous bloggers allegedly installed some ‘other stuff’ (I have no idea about the technical complexities behind this) behind the scenes. I checked my Domain Authority (I have no idea about the technical complexities behind this) and saw that my meagre 20, had dropped six points to 14. Great. I didn’t know much about the inner workings of these things, just that They Were Not Good, and definitely something to bemoan on my Twitter timeline, alongside everyone else complaining about the same problems. I put…

Whether you’re a parent, a city high-flier, a hard-working student (or maybe you’re even all three!), it’s often impossible to carve out some time for ourselves. When we¬†do carve out time for ourselves, there seems to be a really shit culture that we should feel bad for being what’s perceived as ‘self-indulgent’. This can then put us off any form of self-care, because of course, the ensuing guilt we feel afterwards ultimately negates the act of self-care in the first place, causing it to get further and further down the list of priorities. Sometimes it’s because we feel that we should be utilising that spare time to spend more time with the kids; perhaps you feel like you don’t spend enough time with them as it is, or maybe when you take that all-important break from work, you spend your day off thinking about what you didn’t complete before you…

Oh hi there :), Sorry for the slight gap in content; I could tell you that work has been busy, that I’m working on other projects taking up my time (semi-true, I suppose), or I could tell you the truth, which is that I am probably in the midst of one of the worst depressive spells I’ve had in the last few years. I deliberated whether or not to write this, but with blogs and social media, it’s so easy to give this persona that we’re all fine, and writing this blog in it’s new niche of self-care, I want to show that sometimes self-care can be used a preventative measure; maybe it helps stave off a depressive spell, or gets you out of a spiral – but that it also can help you when you’re in the thick of it, and today I’m writing it all out as despite…

When we say¬†self-love¬†and¬†self-care, these ideas encompass a range of things; for some its a nice hot bath with a luxury bath bomb. For others its a Sunday afternoon roast with a large glass of red. Maybe its shutting your bedroom door and not leaving all day until you’ve finished the book you downloaded that morning.

January is a pretty easy month to stay on track isn’t it? No one’s drinking, everyone’s rushing out to get their gym discounts, where they’ll dedicate more hours to the gym than they did for the prior year, and everyone is so¬†focussed on the “New Year New Me” trope, that its easy to turn down social engagements, to turn up at a friends house with a box of tea bags rather than a bottle of wine or to opt for a banana rather than a Big Tasty… My weight and body image is something I struggle with constantly. I absolutely cannot¬†stand when other people take photos of me. I can’t tell you the stress I feel at social engagements – from family Christmas to nights out with friends, knowing that someones going to be taking photos, posting them on various social media or our family photo stream and the fact…

I’ve decided that this year, my mantra is¬†I Trust The Timing of My Life. It’s totally helping me to feel less anxious about the things I can’t control, and making me feel a little bit more hopeful about whatever it is that might be just around the corner. I’ve always been a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and I lost site of that in 2018.
